Review: The Expendables

The Expandables is about Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) leading the "Expendables", a band of highly skilled mercenaries who does nasty jobs for huge amount of money.


The group includes knife enthusiast Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), martial arts expert Yin Yang (Jet Li), heavy weapons specialist Hale Caesar, demolitionist Toll Road and loose-cannon sniper Gunner Jensen.


When the group is commissioned by the mysterious Mr. Church to assassinate the merciless dictator of a small South American island, Barney and Lee head to the remote locale to scout out their opposition.


There on the island, they meet with local rebel Sandra and discover the true nature of the conflict engulfing the city. When they escape the island and Sandra stays behind, Ross must choose to either walk away and save his own life - or attempt a suicidal rescue mission that might just save his soul.


And eventually, Ross went back to the island to settle the job and most importantly to save Sandra - the woman he fell in love almost immediately.

The storyline ends, as predicted, with The Expendables team accomplishing the job with massive explosions and shootings. Pretty much nothing to be understood since it's an all action movie with lots of stunts and actions.

For this movie, Sylvester Stallone's idea of gathering all the action-based actors isn't really successful. It's more like dumping all the well-known actors hoping that every single fans of each actors will watch the movie. Bet many would be disappointed.

Anyway, the plot is pretty much - Shoot, talk, talk, man falls in love, man saves woman, boom, Boom, BOOM, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

The Other Guys is about two mismatched New York City detectives seizing an opportunity to step up like the top cops whom they idolize. Only things don't quite go as planned.

New York City Police Detectives Christopher Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and P. K. Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) are the toughest and most famous cops with the best capture rate no matter what it takes.

However, Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) want their chance to make a big impact too. They get their chance when a small case falls into their lap which ends up being a very big case instead.

Megamind about a supervillain who tries to conquer Metro City in every way. Each attempt turns into a failure thanks to the caped superhero known as "Metro Man", a hero until the day Megamind actually kills him.

After the victory, Megamind (Will Ferrell) is a supervillain without a superhero. He then decides to create a new hero opponent called "Tighten", who promises to be bigger, better and stronger than Metro Man. However, Tighten thinks it's more fun to be a villain than a hero.

Review: Wall Street Money Never Sleeps

In Wall Street Money Never Sleeps, the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster.


A young Wall Street trader, Jake Moore (Shia LaBeouf), partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) on two missions - to alert the financial community to the coming doom and to find out who was responsible for the death of the Jake Moore's mentor - Louis Zabel.


After lots of conversations throughout practically the whole movie, the culprit was identified and everything is back to normal.

Overall, on a personal note, the movie was pretty boring. Conversations here and there, mainly discussions about shares and economics. Betrayals and revenges parts were expected as well, since it's about money.

With the inclusion of Shia LaBeouf (the star of action-packed Transformers and Eagle Eye), it's quite a surprise on why they gave him the main role. LaBeouf should be jumping, running and shouting instead of just talking.


The casts are pretty new to me, except Shia LaBeouf and Michael Douglas. Each brings certain personalities to the movie but it still feels boring.

Perhaps only the Economics personnel would enjoy it.
