Review: Source Code

Source Code is an action thriller about a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

Living the explosion over and over, Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhall) must uncover the identity of the bomber. Also, Colter uses the opportunities to make peace with his father and to find romance with a fellow passenger on the train.

The settings of the movie are mainly either at the train or the place where Colter is "captured".

Under the supervision of Colleen Goodwin (Vera Farmiga) and Dr. Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright), Colter was repeatedly forced back into the virtual simulation where he's suppose to find out what and who caused the bombing in a train within 8 minutes.

Being brought into the "past" for a few times, Colter starts to understand the scenarios and therefore, solving the mystery in each attempt. Of course, he picked on the wrong victim for the first few times.

Together with him on board the train is charming Christina Warren (Michelle Monaghan) who is a traveling partner I suppose. Colter starts to fall for her and he kept insisting on saving her life from the tragedy.

Unfortunately, he was told by Colleen that it's just a simulation - they're actually all dead in reality.

Throughout the duration of investigation, he also realizes that he's already half-dead in the reality. He is able to "move around" be cause of the imagination of his sub-conscious mind. Colter was actually terribly injured while serving in the army and now he's limb-less, kept in a safe vicinity where Collen and Dr. Rutledge use his mind with the Source Code program.

Colter finally solves the missing puzzle, the next bombing was halted in reality after Colter reveals the name of the bomber. But he requests Colleen to bring him back into the simulation again, hoping to save everyone on the train and surprisingly, he continued living in a so-called parallel world where the train tragedy didn't happen.

Overall, the movie was pretty predictable. Nothing unraveling and the audience don't have to think what caused the bombing. Scenes are pretty much the same and nothing exciting except for the same bomb explosion all the time. An extra love story as well, but it didn't spice up anything.

Oh by the way, Russell Peters also appeared as one of the train passengers! See the dude in blue on the left?

Noobie Rating: 5/10 (Not a must-watch movie)
