Each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected for the Corps: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds).
Hal is a gifted and egoistic test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. Especially their replacement leader, Sinestro (Mark Strong), after Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison) was eventually killed by Parallax, didn't have faith in Hal Jordan.
But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle and along with his determination and willpower. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), Hal quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears.
P/S: Blake Lively as Carol Ferris is hot!
Hal then proves that he is not only the key to defeating Parallax, he also become the greatest Green Lantern of all.
When Hal discovered his new Green Lantern powers and traveled through the universe to the Green Lantern Corps' headquarters, Sinestro wasn't convinced by Hal and was determined that he was useless to the group.
Hal eventually went back to Earth, became a hero when he prevented an accident caused by a nemesis Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard).
Hector, who dissected Abin Sur's body after being retrieved by the Government agents, obtained Parallax's power which was left on the injured part of Abin Sur's body. His dad tried to save him from it but Hector killed his dad.
Hector loved Carol as well, and was jealous at Hal for being so close to her. He wanted to kill both Carol and Hal but was deceived when Hal offered the Green Lantern ring to him. Hector managed to used its power but as mentioned, the ring picks its successors - it's not obtained.
Parallax then finally reached Earth and killed Hector by sucking out his soul for failing to adhere to his command - which was to eliminate Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern that possesses Abin Sur's ring.
The Parallax then started to kill the humans on Earth but was distracted by Hal and proceeded to space for a fight. Hal eventually led the Parallax to the sun and Parallax was killed because of the sun's heat.
Honestly, Parallax died too easily. I was expecting more actions between the whole Green Lantern Corp and the Parallax, but it was just an one-on-one battle which ended prematurely, somehow.
Overall, the movie was just okay. Cool Green Lantern outfit. Handsome Ryan Reynolds. Hot chick (Blake Lively obviously!). But the bad guy died too too easily. Simple storyline, nothing mind-boggling. An ordinary superhero movie.
The lesson of the movie was "It's alright to be afraid, but have the courage to face that fear!"
