After the accident, he was in a comma for four days. His wife couldn't recognize him anymore and he was in a lot of confusion. A few strangers were after him, but he managed to escape every time they go after him.
Martin was stranded in Berlin and he tracked back Gina (Diane Kruger), the taxi driver who were involved in the accident with him. He then went back to the conference to search for his wife, but unfortunately - she can't recognize him.
The other Martin Harris has totally taken over his role and he was in more confusion. He then met Ernst Jurgen (Bruno Ganz), a private detective, whom he seek for help in discovering his identity.
Gina, an illegal immigrant, assisted him throughout the search. And more exposure to different people, he then realize that he is actually a trained assassin - where Elizabeth and the other Martin Harris are his colleagues. The strangers who were after him were actually summoned to assassinate him from spoiling the plan.
He was actually replaced because he breached the plan to assassinate Professor Leo Bressler, who is the scientist behind the new corn technology. The objective was to steal the information of the technology and murder him with hidden bombs that was planted 3 months back. Well-planned, but initial Martin Harris failed his part and was replaced.
He then turned "good guy" and inform the police that there are bombs located in the building where Professor Bressler and his project's main finance support, Prince Shada, are having a meeting. Both the targets escaped while Elizabeth (killed by the explosion) and the other Martin (killed by the initial Martin) died.
Overall, the movie has a mysterious start to the storyline. It makes audience think of explanations and why is Martin Harris perfectly replaced. The other Martin Harris knows everything about him and even has photos with his wife. What's worse is that Elizabeth don't recognize him.
After much contemplation and suspense, the true reason behind his lost of identity was interesting. Predicting the storyline is quite hard as you won't know what to expect from time to time. Great growth into the plot and the climate was spot on.
