Review: Mars Needs Moms

Mars Need Moms follows a boy named Milo, whose mother gives him chores and tasks. But after Milo almost "poisoned" their cat, his mother sees no humor in this. She orders him up to his room.


After an argument with his mother, Milo goes to his room. After falling asleep, Milo does not hear the rumble of the rocket landing outside. Martians enter Milo's house and take away his mother. Milo realizes that he has to rescue her and then embarks on an adventure to rescue his mother.


Just by clinging onto the spaceship, Milo was also brought to the planet Mars. There, he found out that every 25 years, Mars will search the Earth for a strict and stern mother. They will then extract the "strictness and sternness" of the mother and use it for the nanny bots.


The Supervisor of the Mars colony is an old grumpy lady and every single alien there are females. Soon later, it was revealed that there are actually both male and female within the community. But once the babies hatch, the baby boys are thrown into the huge dumpster down under while the baby girls are kept, trained and taken care properly.


At Mars, Milo was saved by Gribble - another human on Mars. Milo was surprised and glad that he has met Gribble and begged Gribble to help save his mom before the time runs out. Gribble didn't intend to help at first, but after a few commotions where he was caught by the aliens and Milo came to the rescue, he changed his mind. In fact, Gribble was also like Milo years ago. He followed the alien to Mars but wasn't able to save his mum. Therefore, he ended up living along as the only human in Mars.


As unlucky as Milo and Gribble can get, their fortunes turned when a local alien, Ki, offered her help to save Milo's mom. Surprisingly she could speak English because she secretly recorded a show from Earth and learned on her own. She was also able to paint her alien city with colourful flowers and decorations, due to the video as well.

Ki helped them throughout the rescue of Milo's mom and somehow she fell in love with Gribble. She loves it when Gribble blushes and his face turns red.

At the end, Ki revealed to her fellow ladies that they are actually meant to reproduce naturally with both male and female, and she claims it as "family". The Supervisor was furious, she tried to fight back but she couldn't overcome the fact in the end.

Overall, the movie was just average - the storyline was ordinary. The scenes are always dark because the setting is at the outer space. The 3D isn't impressive at all, so don't watch it in 3D.

Besides that, it's weird that Mars actually need moms for such a thing. But after all, it's a Disney production - it's a magical world out there right?
