Review: 127 Hours

127 Hours is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston's remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah.

The movie started of with Aron Ralston (James Franco) preparing and heading out for an adventure without informing anyone on his whereabouts.

At Utah, he met 2 young ladies in the beginning.

Took them for a little adventure and exploration together and they went their separate ways.

At first, it seems that Ralston extremely enjoys the adventure on his own.

That's until when he's on his way back to his truck that an accident happen. While he goes down into a canyon, a boulder crashed down and trapped his right arm.

Over the next five days plus, hence the title 127 Hours, Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage to extricate himself by any means necessary.

With his cheap Swiss Army knife, he tried to release himself - by trying to break the boulder. But it doesn't seem to budge.

During the days and nights being stuck at the canyon, he has various hallucinations and flashbacks - even till the extend of recording himself as though he's on a talk show! Throughout his trapped moments, Ralston recalls friends, lovers, family and the two hikers he met before his accident.

After much desperation on escaping, he finally resorted to amputating the trapped arm with the Swiss Army knife. The scenes during the attempt isn't for the faint hearted, even though there isn't much of it. After he finally did it, he scaled a 65 foot wall, hiked over eight miles and he is finally rescued by other adventurers.

Despite the lack of actions and dialogues, the movie conveys a simple message - to never give up. In hardships, there's always challenges and obstacles that we all have to go through, and there's always a way to solving it.

I was thinking, if I was in his position - will I be daring enough to amputate my own arms? I don't think I will - so I'll eventually die there and waste a chance to be featured in a movie!

Noobie Rating: 7/10 (Fantastic and inspiring true story, despite the fact that he loses his arm)
