Now I've not watched the 1984 version, therefore the review is entirely based on the latest remake without comparison with the original one.
12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) move to China because of this mother's latest career movie. Dre find it though initially but immediately falls for classmate Mei Ying. Mei Ying falls for Dre as well, but cultural differences make the a friendship tough.
Dre was also a bully victim by schoolmate, Cheng. In the land of Chinese kung fu, Dre knows nothing about it and was kept bullied. With no friends, Dre was then helped by the maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly an old kung fu master.
Mr. Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about hurting others, but maturity and calmness. Dre then realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.
As a result, Dre joined a karate competition in order to defeat Cheng and the other bullies.
In the end, as always, the good guy wins.
Personally, the storyline is interesting with Jaden Smith's acting went pretty well for his young age. His character's determination and courage made it all the more interesting!
However, the inclusion of the "kiddy" love between Dre and Mei Ying (Han Wen Wen) was a little unnecessary. The relationship created a little extra hype anyway.
Overall, it's a good movie. Enjoyed it!
Noobie Rating: 7/10 (Watch it!)
